Antidepressant Tapering

Hello. I'm currently tapering off sertraline after 3 years on it (mainly at 100mg). I'm going super slowly, 6 weeks at each drop and have my GP's support.

Has anyone done this before and got any tips/experiences (good or bad) and what symptoms to look out for that mean i am going too fast?

Thanks lovelies.

No experience but my son is currently tapering off. He was on 25mg and made first drop to 12.5mg 10 days ago. From what I have researched, very slow taper is best. The 50% drop made 10 days ago goes against all the advice (apart from that of our GP!!!). GP wanted him to drop to 0mg in another week. He will not be doing that. Now I have read up on tapering, it is likely that he will remain where he is for another 3 weeks then we will introduce incremental drops of 10% every 2-3 weeks or until he is stable on the lower dose. Unfortunately I think I have spent too much time “googling”. I would absolutely never have agreed to this drug if I had known the difficulty that can be experienced with discontinuation. I wish you luck in tapering slowly and hope it is a smooth journey.

Just an update. After speaking to prescribing physician, we have been told to hold at 12.5 for 3 months then introduce tapering at 10% every 3 weeks.

How’s your taper going Umbongo1?

Hi there now on 50mg and have been for 4 weeks or more so probably will do another couple at this dose before I think about another cut! No rush the way I see it, I need to be able to function!
