Mirtazapine - experiences?

Hi
Am really suffering with depression at the moment.
Went back to my GP this week, I'm already on 40mg citalopram which is the max dose.
Because I'm in a crisis, I really don't want to wean off & try a complete different med, so GP has given me mirtazapine. Have only taken it twice and I'm having significant side-effects - horrible headache, slept all day & even less energy than before, appetite has immediately increased.
Can anyone tell me their experiences & if you had similar symptoms, when they improved?
Thank you!

Just came on here to ask about experiences of Mirtazapine.

I have been on it for nearly a year and a half, and this is my third or fourth attempt to wean off. When I first started, I slept great, but I slurred my words slightly and felt really groggy the next day, this wore off after about three months. I have gained about 12kgs in that time too, I am 5'5 and have a BMI of 29.3 now, the biggest I've ever been, this is one of the main reasons I'd like to wean off the drug. My memory is terrible too, but being poorly can affect this, it isn't necessarily the Mirtazapine. I feel quite numb, which is quite good for me as I lack any fireguard for my emotions, but it can mean I can be slightly vacant, so I'd like to start letting myself feel in safe situations again.
It was really good for curbing my anxiety, and obviously the sleep it gives you helps a lot too. I'd say it's a really good drug if you have anorexia, anxiety and insomnia. Withdrawal can be quite difficult, I find because of sleep, that's why I've not been able to properly wean off yet. I also can't take SSRIs.
