PMT and depression

I have always had pretty bad PMT - tears, low mood, anxiety, depression and this last month for over a week I have had the lowest of the lows, felt like walking away from everything, spontaneous tears, anxiety about being around other people and even darker thoughts, as soon as period comes the cloud lifts. I am worried as I get older this is getting worse, I am 46, I run about 3-4 times a week, physically well and not on any contraception, it didn't agree with me, I don't want anti-depressants or anything to mask it, but am struggling big time and the footprint of my last episode is still with me now, although thoughts are not as dark.

Please can anyone relate to this and does anyone have any suggestions what I can do about it ?

Hello juicy just, hope you’ve been okay.
I don’t have PMT but I have had depressive episodes most my life (I get It from my dad) and since November last year I developed very bad anxiety after a bad panic attack.
I was in a panicked state constantly for about a month, very dark thoughts, thought I was going mad, felt suicidal at one point, irrational thoughts. It has slowly gotten better since November but it got to the point where i couldn’t do it anymore and had to go on ADs. I have had therapy too which has also been very helpful.
I was like you though and I really didn’t want to, but if you had diabetes you would take tablets for that? It’s exactly the same thing and if something makes you feel better, why would you not?

But if you’re dead against it then definitely give therapy a go- try cbt I’ve heard it’s amazing. Also, yoga! I started yoga when I was very panicked and it helped calm me down and have some you too, baths help. You can do it though Flowers

Yes, I can relate, unfortunately. I find eating healthily v unhealthy all month affects how bad my PMT is. Having a bad month this month so starting to take Vitamin B complex again and also taking fish oils with a high EPA.Flowers

Theres an interesting website called cycle diet, I've been following principles of it and it does help. Evening primrose oil is good. I have heard cases where people take ads for a week a month.

Thanks for messages - i’ve had AD in the past and although it’s helped I don’t like the fact it simply masks my emotions and then once I stop taking them it’s back to square 1 again, any alternative approaches are of interest and the cycle diet sounds good, I eat low carb/sugar and just started taking vit b complex again, I cannot even describe how horrendous these episodes are, pretty certain i’m an awful person to live with...
