Increased dose of citalopram and anxiety

I started on 20mg of citalopram before Christmas - it worked quite quickly to lift my mood somewhat but I was still feeling quite anxious and occasionally very tearful.

At the end of Jan I agreed with my GP to try an increased dose of 30mg. So now it's nearly two weeks after that increase and have been feeling v anxious. After (more) tears at work last week my boss has suggested I take some time off but I am still feeling anxious at home and would prefer to go into work. I'm wondering at what point I should talk to my GP again or if the anxiety is likely to pass still?

Has anyone experienced similar and gone on to feel better?

I had something very similar about two years ago. It took me about 7 weeks to feel noticeably different to the point where I could go back to work as I was signed off at the beginning. It depends whether being at work helps you or not, for me it was the trigger for a lot of my anxiety but being off allowed me the time to let the medication do it's thing while I did some counselling and self help. I hope you feel better soon xx

I went up from 10 to 20 and very much felt the effects of the increase for a little over two weeks, then things settled down.

Thanks for replying. It sounds as if it could still get better.

Work is a bit of a dilemma. It is a source of anxiety but a lot of it is stuff in my own head about how I'm perceived and whether I add any value. Generally I get a buzz out of work and would prefer to be there but it feels as if I've gone over to the wrong side of the line between working hard and wanting to achieve, to a place where I worry too much about it all, beyond what could ever be productive. I feel quite conflicted...

Hi I know this is an old post but just wondering how you got on with the increased dose? I increased to 30mg 5 days ago and my anxiety is bad and I’m not sleeping. Praying it gets better soon so I can return to work x
