Talk to me about Fluoxetine

I'm on day 7 of starting Prozac for depression after 8 months of being off sertraline which I took for years. So far I feel terrible mainly because of the night time insomnia. Last night awake from 2-5am. Does this improve? I can ride out most other side effects but it's hard to cope after a sleepless week...

Can anyone send me some hope? I'm feeling very down today.

The first two weeks or so can make you really anxious which can affect your sleep. It settled down for me after that and works really well for me

Hi prozacgirl sorry to hear you're needing anti-ds. I also take Fluoxetine and in fact today increased my dose.

When do you take yours? Most people find it's best to take it first thing in the morning as it is a "stimulating" drug. Taking it in the evening would give you insomnia.

I've found it fairly effective. I'm quite sensitive to it so for the first couple of weeks had a lot of nausea and headaches.

Thanks for replying. I've been taking it at 7am, feeling tired but jittery and racing heart in the day and then I fall asleep ok but wake around 2.30/3. Twice I've just lay awake all night which has been awful. I actually saw the gp and she gave me a 3.5mg zopliclone script for a week but I'm not sure it did much as I still woke last night. Although I woke up feeling more rested...
I hope my experience is similar and the insomnia settles. I really want these to work! I was on sertraline for years which just made me fat and tired.

I didn't have problems sleeping but when I started on Fluoxetine it made my anxiety so much worse I'm now also on Trazodone at night.

Hope the zoplicone helps. Another option is an old school seating anti-histamine at night. Plus the warm milk thing!
