Long term citalopram use

Have been taking 10mg got many years (10+) for depression. October last year felt very bad so gp put me up to 20mg which I know is still pretty low but I feel so tired and just so lethargic all the time. Yes, I no longer feel I want to cry uncontrollably or jump under a bus, but my quality of life is so awful! Has anyone had experience of this?

I didn't use it long term but had similar problems. I was put straight on to 20mg and only took it for a month but in that time I was too tired to do anything. I slept constantly and had no energy. It was awful. I went back to the GP and got put on escitalopram but I've been having similar problems.

Yesterday I decided not to have it in the morning and had it later in the day. I felt completely different in the morning - like I was actually awake and then got sleepy later after I had take it. I am going back to my GP to discuss coming off it or changing to something else but am taking today's in the evening.

I've been taking it in evening all along, about 8pm. It's got so bad I fall asleep about 9pm and sleep right through, then sleep most of weekend.

I've been on it 10 years at varying strengths. I only have side effects for a week or so when going up or down a dose. I'd speak to your GP about an alternative x

Also a long term user, same dose, but I take it in the mornings. My GP said it should be taken in the am, not pm. I don't have the energy I used to have but that's maybe because I am heading towards old bag territory.

The 2 times I have tried to come off them I have relapsed, so I'd much rather deal with a bit of lethargy than feeling like the whole world is caving in. x

Thanks for al replies, it's good to hear other people's experience. Think I will try and cut down gradually to 10.... just can't cope with this tiredness!

Long term user here (10+ years) came off for 3 months 1 few years ago and quickly relapsed. I'm on 30mg atm, having oscillated between 10 and 50 over the years. The first time I took it I felt incredibly lethargic but in contrast to insomnia and 24/7 panic, tiredness felt like bliss!

I've been on citalopram fro 10+ years. I'm on 40 at the moment have been as low as 10. I've always had insomnia so I'm always tired. I didn't notice it particularly being worse on citalopram. I just notice that I cry less and feel less suicidal when I'm on it. On the rare occasion I sleep well for a few nights running I feel full of energy. If I could sleep every night I think I could rule the world!
