Tell GP I'm seeing privât therapist

I'm on a waiting list for NHS therapy. If I see a private therapist while I'm waiting do I have to tell my GP? And if I do, will I be removed from the NHS waiting list?

Of yourself you don't have to tell them.

Anything you pay for privately has no affect on NHS treatment.

What if the therapist wants to tell the GP?

The therapist will not tell anyone unless you or someone else is at risk of harm.

I paid for private while waiting for NHS referral. Told GP and they had no issue with it - they agreed that in my state the 5 months waiting list was far too long and were very apologetic about the situation. No need to tell them if you don't want to - one shouldn't affect the other.
