Hope I’m doing the right thing. GP wants me to phone to discuss. Just requested going 20 to 30mg. Been on it for over a year, but struggling the past few months.

I'm on 30 and it's working well. In the past I've been to 40 but currently happy with 30. Hope you feel better soon! Thanks

Thank you. I’m a little worried about side effects with an increase, as I felt awful for weeks when I initallly started taking them x

I increased my dose and it wasn’t anything like when I started taking them. Now switched to something that suits me better.

I didn't really notice any side effects when switching dose - only with the initial start when they were bloody awful.

Rughasbeenpulled · 02/02/2019 19:36

Hi everyone,
When did you start feeling better with the side effects? I’ve been nearly two weeks now. I have a splitting headache all the time, feel sick, dry mouth (has got better) and I’m really exhausted. All I’ve done today is cry. I wanted to go back to work on Monday, but I’m struggling so much.

KarBB · 02/02/2019 22:26

@Rughasbeenpulled first time I felt improvement with it days with mild side effects of drowsiness, feeling slow, spaced out & an upset stomach. Second time was much harder and took 6-7 weeks to kick in at all and several months to get back to where I'd been before, mood-wise. Side effects were dry mouth, insomnia & the fact that I felt mentally worse than before. Both times worth it though.

I was on citalopram for years and i went up to 40mg. It didnt really work and dp said it zombified me. I swirched to Escitalopram which is effectively the same drug but purer. It is more expensive so many drs dont offer as a first call AD. I had 20mg and was much better.

I stopped for about two years but had to restart last year. I am on 10mg and its helping.

LEMtheoriginal · 02/02/2019 22:38

Just to say i struggled with the increase in dose and needed to take diazepam for two weeks when i upped my citalopram dose.

qumquat · 03/02/2019 17:32

I went up from 20 to 40 and didn't have any side effects. I still feel like it's not enough though but apparently 40 is the highest dose.

Rughasbeenpulled · 03/02/2019 17:50

I’ve been on Diazepam too, so wondering if some of the side effects are related to that. Can’t say I’m feeling much better in myself at the minute, I though I was. But the last 48hours seem to have been a lot harder.
I’m meant to be returning to work tomorrow, but in a morning I just don’t seem to be able to function, and feel like I’ve woke up with the worlds worst hangover (despite being t-total for years).

I have been on 20mg for some years but recently I have been struggling with my anxiety and low moods. I am going to my G.P. on Friday to ask if I would benefit from going up to 30mg. I am also wondering if I am doing the right thing. It is a new Dr so I hope he is helpful and understanding.

Unbelievable18 · 04/02/2019 16:28

I've also posted separately, but I am only a few days into 20 mg citalopram, my life, the nausea and lack of appetite is awful. I've hardly eaten in 4 days. Will this improve?

sollyfromsurrey · 05/02/2019 00:21

Crazycarrie are you perimenopausal in age? Anxiety is a common symptom of that. If you are, HRT might be better than increasing your anti depressants.

Crazycarrie · 05/02/2019 16:17

sollyfromsurrey I am in my menopause so maybe that could be the reason for my anxiety.

KarBB · 05/02/2019 20:04

4 days is very soon, though I understand it probably feels like an eternity for you right now. It can take a few months to tell if it's the right med for you, though some lucky people feel relief much sooner. Hope you're one of them! But if you're not there's support on here which can help. X
