Could anybody please recommend any books or just general ways in which you deal with looking negatively in life? My depression is starting to lift a bit but I'm still left with constantly thinking the worst of people and situations which slowly ruins relationships etc.

Try "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle.

He was a manic depressive.

Hi OP. I've struggled a lot with depression in the past. Fortunately, it's been a while since I've had a really rough patch.

One thing that I've found incredibly useful for my mental health is to keep a journal. I use a bullet journal, but anything would do. I make a few notes of what has happened that day, for example how well I've slept, if I'm properly hydrated, if I've eaten properly etc, and a few words about how I've felt overall, for example anxious, happy, stressed, excited. That way, I can identify triggers for negative moods.

The one thing that has made a massive difference though is every day, writing down three things I'm thankful for. It can be really small, like I had a really nice cuppa, or being thankful for a friend helping with something, but make yourself write three things down. I've been doing this for quite a while now, and I honestly believe it's really helped me to change my way of thinking to having a more positive outlook.

I wish you well, OP.

Thank you everyone :)

@Glitterandunicorns Glad to hear that you've been doing okay for a while and I hope that continues! I'm quite looking forward to buying a nice journal and trying to write the things I'm grateful for, thank you for your help x

Hi @guessing, thank you so much! That's very kind. I really hope it works for you as it has for me. Thanks

'Feeling Good the New Mood Therapy' Dr David Burns.
'10 Days to Self Esteem' by same author.
Both absolutely fab & changed my life.
