I've been waiting 14 months. I just can't cope with life. I don't know where else to turn. I've emailed and they have said I'm still on their list.

I waited about 14 months from being on the waiting list (although it took 4 months to get onto the list) once I got my first appointment I had a run of them close together and assessment to diagnosis was less than 3 months.

Also an assessment won't help with other common conditions such as depression. If you can't cope with life you really need to see a GP about your mental health. They should be able to help you access resources.

Also check for autism groups or charities. Some offer help even without diagnosis. Also groups can be useful for finding a place you can fit in.

I hope you get your answers soon.

I should mention it's a lottery. Everyone I know who has been diagnosed had a different experience. Please don't give up. Start looking for help now. Gp for mental health, support groups for support with finding new ways to cope.

I've started using ADHD techniques for my organisation for instance. It's really helped me feel more in control of my life. The internet has so much help, search it out.

If you are female there are several big support groups for women on the spectrum. You could also read books which may offer techniques and help. Aspergirls I found a great help. Also autistic not weird is a lovely community. Find your tribe and it will really help I promise.

It took a year for me and the assessment was a five hour appointment, my Mum came along with me. I was diagnosed after that, initially she wasn’t sure as I am 52 and mask well but she felt I fitted better into the autism diagnosis than anything else.

Two years for DH so far. Had to send off info recently so hoping an appointment is coming shortly...

Thank you for all your replies.

I have seen the doctor about my other issues. I made another thread today. They don't seem to know what to do with me. I've tried counselling and CBT.

Also what happens if you can't function to work? I have difficulty doing Day to day tasks and I've been horrendous at every job I've had
