Signed off work - can I still volunteer

I've just been signed off because of work related stress. I was reluctant but I can hear what my GP is saying, I need a break from that environment.

I do volunteer work during my spare time, am I allowed to continue to do this? I don't want to get in trouble.

What is your volunteering and is it in any way similar to your paid job? How long per week do you do it?

You can be unfit for one job but not another. Your volunteer work may be therapeutic and aid your recovery.

When I was signed off I kept up my voluntary work as it gave my week some structure and I find it therapeutic. But it was an hour a week and totally different from my paid job. My employer gives me paid time off to do the volunteering in my normal work week so they knew about it.

Yes you can

It depends, if the volunteering is anything close to your work in type your employer could argue "well they are fit enough to do xxx" a couple of hours a week would be fine a I think but even if very different from your work, several hours a day 2+ days a week could cause problems and your dr called into question
