This is my newest attempt to get rid of the anxiety that has been plaguing me for the last 5 years. For the last 5 years I have been a shadow (all be it a fatter one) of my former self. I have through various therapy's and self help been able to get myself to a point where i can go out and about a bit I have various safe places i can go to some even alone which is a massive step.

Anywho todays the day I start a new medication for me and wondered if anyone else was in the same boat. I wanted to do a support thread to get us through the first couple of weeks, which is supposed to be bit of a tricky time. Any takers? I will still be updating even if I am the only one so don't feel obliged to join in and its for any new medication starters not just those on sertraline

Few hours in from the first one. Wouldn't think it would have made much of a difference so soon but am feeling twitchy I keep yawning and my jaw feels quite tight. Definitely feel like i have taken something.

I've been on setraline for a month. To begin with I felt very nauseous and after a few days quite spaced out. The side effects stopped after a couple of weeks & I have felt more able to cope (though it was the Christmas break so I think that helped as I've felt lower again since the new year, but not as low as I was before I started on them).

Hi Nousernameforme, how are you doing? I’m a week into taking 25mg of sertraline and felt terrible for the first 4 days or so. The side effects also kicked in for me within hours. Couldn’t sleep, lots of anxiety/panic attacks, weird racing thoughts, feeling low etc. The past couple of days have been manageable.
I've started taking the tablet in the morning which seems better.

Nousernameforme · 11/01/2019 14:40

Not taking those again they started me off on 50mg which seems a bit much. Still feeling rough today keep getting similar rushes but weaker than yesterday.
Have been offered citalopram which i have had before but I didn't find effective enough.
So no idea what to do next I had pinned my hopes on this tbh. Oh well take 424 starts next week heh

Hello can I join this thread. I started on 50mg if sertraline on Monday so I am now on Day 5. I was a little nauseous the first couple of days but that’s improved. However I feel completely spaced out like I’m on drugs and not really here. How long do these side effects tend to last for?

Nousernameforme · 11/01/2019 17:47

You should start to see a positive effect 3-4weeks in I don't know if that means the negative effects trail off then or.what

Hi OP, I had the same experience as you and rode it out as I experienced the same with citalopram years ago. It's horrid but I knew/hoped it would pass and it has. Still feeling up and down after a week and nauseous once or twice a day but I also look out for feeling ill as I am phobic about it.

Verytired2019 · 11/01/2019 18:27

Hi Webb27, I felt the same for the first few days. I'm probably 6 says in and don't feel it so much now. But I've heard it can take 2-3 weeks for side effects to settle.

Hi hope it's ok to join in am just coming up to 5 weeks now on 25mg of sert I started on 50 but after 3 days started taking half the tablet cos I found the side effects were so bad. I have had some days were I have felt pretty good but then other days like today were I have felt rotten from anxiety. I prob do need to go up now to 50 but scares me the thought of the side effects being really bad. How are you all feeling.

Petsimos · 13/01/2019 18:09

Would love to join if that’s ok!

Have been on citalopram before for mixture of anxiety/depression and always make the mistake of stopping taking after a few months once they’ve ‘kicked in’. Has anyone found any kind of talking therapy/cbt to help them? I was thinking of paying to be seen privately seeing as NHS waiting lists are such a joke. Having another bad day where I feel like my life will never get any better
