Been on AD's for 2 weeks...........

Hi. I have been on AD's for 2 weeks and they started working after about a week and I felt quite good but now im not sure if I am starting to dip down again. I am on 20mg, is that quite high? Thanks

i went thru this on fluoxetine. tbh, imho, i think it's just things evening out where they're getting into your system. can you see doc 2moro and talk it over with them? fm x((((((((((yummymummy06))))))))))))

Hi. Thanks for replying. I have to see doc in next 2 weeks as need repeat persciption so will wait abit longer to see how I feel. I don't feel depressed but just don't feel as good as what I did a week ago. x

tbh the first week i was on them, i felt ecstatic then the next week i felt a bit like a deflated balloon. then when they had settled down i felt a bit better and then felt loads better. BUT don't come off them like i did, thinking i was ok, cos i went back down again. i now have trouble remembering to take them and have had a couple of relapses since then.

sorry, , the dose i'm on is also 20mg.

please stay on them and give things a proper "go". ten if things don't change before you see your doc again, please go a week early and tell them how you're feeling. it might be something as simple as changing to a different tablet.

It will vary from person to person but it can take up to a couple of months to settle into ADs and to be able to look back and see a noticable difference. Keep up with them and see your GP as planned.

Thanks! Im ok. I am definatly not coming off them as I can already see a difference in myself and feel like they have helped me. Will see the doc and tell him. Think they put me on this one (citalapram) as I have bad anxiety.

I have been on prozac for 6 weeks now and I have weeks when I feel great and the next week feel exchausted and deflated. I think it takes a good few months to completely settle down.

You can still feel up and down when you take ADs. Some work better for different peopole so you may have to change dose or meds to find one that fits you. 2 weeks us very early days but I am glad you saw an improvement. They usually take about 6 weeks to work properly so hang on in there. If you are worried, check in with your doctor

You need to give ads much longer than two weeks to kick in. It can take a couple of months for you to begin to see a real difference.

20mg of Citalopram isn't very high, so you may find that your GP needs to up the dose at some point anyway, but he won't do it after just two weeks.

I felt so much better in the first fwe weeks of taking my ADs but, in hindsight, I think it was relief that I was finally getting help. I think it was more of a placebo effect as I quickly went back to being very depressed and then became worse. I am not trying to scare anyone, just make sure you give the ADs a chance to work and if, for any reason, you feel worse, tell someone.

I've been on (and now off!) Citalopram, and it worked really well for me - had awful panic and anxiety. Started on 20mg and went up to 30mg after about 7 weeks. The literature with the meds does say it can take about 6 weeks before you really start to feel the benefit.

I found that just starting to take them had some kind of placebo effect, it was a relief to know the symptoms would finally be 'managable'. Also had counselling for a year alongside tablets.
