There is no one best. Different things work for different people. Have you been to your GP?

Have you tried anything already?
Are you depressed or it's it mainly anxiety?

For me i found the most effective antidepressant for my anxiety was fluanxol 1mg taken as and when needed.

I try not to use it every day as they i can find i feel a bit flat after a while. It's not actually strictly antidepressant, it's a mild antipsychotic but my doctor prescribed me them as i really didn't want anything addictive.
I also occasionally have a diazepam but try and keep that as rare as possible as that's not something you want to get addicted to. Very useful in a panic attack though.

Sertaline, it's a 'game changer' OP! Thanks

Citalopram works very well for me - I have GAD + Panic. I would des rive it as life changing. However, everyone is different. I agree with other advice that best place to start is GP. There are lots of threads on here about Citalopram & other ADs that you can search to hear about other people's experience.
Anxiety is horrible but is very treatable - sending sympathy Thanks
