Alcohol effects

Does anyone else notice that alcohol effects them a day or two after?
When I was in my early 20s I would go out and drink near enough every weekend. How ever I never noticed it would make me feel this way. Since having my DS and having PND even if i have say 2 drinks the next few days I feel low. Depending on the amount and what I've drunk depends on how bad the low mood is. Very strange that my body now doesn't react to alcohol that well. Anyone else the same?

Yes. I also think it makes you more anxious.

Yes, I notice I'm more depressed and apathetic. Part of the reason I want to cut down.

I'm literally the opposite to how I was when I was younger. I'm really not a fan of getting drunk now. I used to get so drunk I didn't know what I was doing, don't like that feeling anymore. I find even 1 drink will effect me the next few days

I'm similar to you - used to be complete party animal but since starting to get anxiety & depression in early 20s have cut down to just 1 or 2 drinks a week & have had periods of total abstinence for several months at a time. I can't touch alcohol in Sunday's when I'm most prone to the blues & generally only have a single drink on a Friday night or perhaps on holiday as a real treat. Shame but it's not that good for anyone to drink a lot & i think it helps me keep my weight in check

Alcohol is a depressant so it's not surprising it has this effect on you.

How weird it does to me too I used to love a drink but from about 8 months ago I just cannot function properly the next day from drinking it makes me feel alien and weird all day long

MissConductUS · 30/12/2018 22:31

It's the withdrawal that makes you feel that way. It's a sign of possible dependence.

Hotchocolate18 · 31/12/2018 08:53

miss it's not dependence I hardly drink anymore. This year I've prob drunk on average once a month. I know it's a depressant but it never used to have that effect on me before I had a child.

@Hotchocolate18 I don't think it's a dependence either as one or two drinks here and there with months in between is normal drinking but the anxiety after is not x

Alcohol alters the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, increasing some and suppressing others. If you're experiencing unpleasant effects after drinking it's likely related to that fact and the best advice I can give you is to avoid alcohol.
