I want to leave NHS MH services (as they are appalling) and access what I want privately (therapy, psychiatrist etc.)
The NHS refuses to listen to my private diagnosis or give me a second opinion on my current diagnosis with them and as a result are treating me for the wrong condition.
Can I combine private MH services and normal GP etc. Or is it all in or all out? I don't have infinite funds but this needs to be a priority so I will find some money but can't afford to pay for all my healthcare

I'm not picking and choosing lightly but I have been failed by the NHS for years and would like to invest in my future MH.

Any advice gratefully received, or any experiences.

You can always get a second opinion in anything, so mh is no different.
You would need to discuss this with your Gp as you will need a referral letter to take with you especially if seeing a psychiatrist (almost certain) you wouldn’t be able to see say nhs psych and private psych, but don’t see why you can’t still get things like cbt, mindfulness through nhs.
The nhs mh is on its knees, hit and miss postcode lottery as to how your treated and what help you get.

Private mh does not come cheap! Also depends on your area a lot.
An appointment with psych can be anything from £200-400 session
I also think you have to pay for private prescriptions too.
Also anything like talking therapy can be from £70-200 an hour.

I’ve looked into it myself at The priory, after being in crisis trying to get nhs help.
Do you have anywhere in mind? I would ring and ask about price
At least this would give you some idea as to what your dealing with if it’s a long term treatment.

I have found a Couple of different psychiatrists and also found therapy and counselling on a sliding scale

I can't wait on waiting lists for the rest of my life I need to take control of my MH as its been taking control of me for too long

Even if I just pay for a few months I think I will get further than I have in the year or so since I've been back with only the NHS, however I have had problems before with them not paying attention to a report and diagnosis from private services.

I only ever get offered CBT on the NHS and that makes me worse. I have problems with obsessing over thoughts and found CBT exacerbates this, not helps it.

I think I am going to try and access as many alternatives to mainstream as I can but including charity's and helplines and things. I can't afford to do everything privately, but I can't afford to stay with the NHS either

I’m a step 4 on nhs primary mh care, and I had to wait 11 mths! Wait for it cbt! They told me I was seeing a psychologist (which I asked for, as done cbt before and never helped then)
I started seeing cbt therapist as I thought anything is better than nothing. Got to 10 sessions and she tells me she’s leaving,
Told Gp and she rang her up. 2 weeks later she rings me the day she was leaving and says I’ve been passed on to someone else.
Story short, this was a psychologist lovely young lady BUT 7 mths pregnant. It could only happen to me, told her exactly what I thought of the way I’d been treated she listened and said she would ring me in a week.
So I’ve now got a guy whom I doing ACT therapy, which I think may start after new year as I’m top off list.

I’m very similar to you, mine is anxiety brought on worse with thoughts that runs my life. I can be ok one min and the next I get bodily sensation and I get the fight/flight feelings.
Not new to me over 35 yrs, but menopause as made it worse.
I hate it with vengeance.

Wish you look

Can social services use it against me and say I'm not accessing services?
I am not refusing help, I am refusing the poor NHS care I have received (and which offered no solutions just waiting lists) in favour of something that might actually help

I had private therapy while waiting for nhs step 3 CBT to come through. GP was supportive & apologetic that I had to wait so long for nhs therapy after having panic disorder meltdown (5/6 months wait) Would have gone to see a psychiatrist privately if I thought I could afford it or knew where to look but £90/week therapy was clearing me out of savings fast. Felt very angry with nhs as all they could offer was meds & I felt that if I'd had the therapy sooner I might have avoided going back on ADs. In the past a relative went to see private psychiatrist at Priory as was so let down by nhs. Not all together successful as they prescribed anti-psychotics which didn't help, he had to stop taking & they changed his personality radically and seemingly permanently.
Hope you get some help soon. Anything is worth trying as it's so hard to get any kind of support.
