I have been taking ADs for nearly 2 weeks now and since taking them my apetite has changed completely.Im just never hungry. I was wondering if all ADs would have this affect on me and if anyone else experienced this will it continue as long as I take the ADs? Its the strangest thing as I usually enjoy food but now I just dont enjoy anything, not even the sweet stuff!

which ADs are you taking slinkee?

dustystar · 25/06/2007 19:24

There are definitely some ADs that can do this but I'm not sure of the names.

I'm on citalopram.. only been on it since last Wed and it has changed my appetite already in subtle ways. I take a tablet in the morning and all day long I can take or leave food really.. not exactly hungry but don't actually feel sick or anything.

Towards the evening a get a bit hungry.

I see it as a fringe benefit personally!

I'm taking Cipralex - I find I have to remember to eat also. I do have weight to lose but was thinking what happens after I've lost that weight.

How strange, I was going to start a thread on this!

I have been on citalapram for 2 weeks now and I don't feel like eating at all. The thought of food doesn't appeal to me anymore and I used to love chocolate and crisps but have completely cut down!

Think I have already lost 2lbs but need to remember to eat as don't need to loose much.

StifflersMom · 26/06/2007 11:38

Yummy do you suffer from anxiety, mainly? I do - not actual depression I don't think - and my GP said citalopram was the best one to try first for this. She put me on 10mg; how about you?

I think I am starting to feel calmer. It's only been 6 days and I felt really jittery and more anxious initially but a couple of potentially stressful things have happened today already (as they do in my family! ) and I have dealt with them better.. I think!

lots of ads make you lose your appetite. it usually returns after a few weeks or so on them.

yummymummy06 · 26/06/2007 19:22

Hi stiffler, I suffer mainly with anxiety yes. I am on 20mg. Doc did perscribe me 10mg a few months ago but didn't take them and only just gone back and he said to take 20mg. They have made so much difference to me. Ive only been on them 2 weeks and felt a difference in a week. I can actually have a laugh now!!!

cantdothisanymore · 27/06/2007 04:58

Oh, I have the opposite problem. Mine makes me eat ALL day

StifflersMom · 27/06/2007 10:50

I think my appetite suppressant effects are wearing off actually.. more's the pity. I have been on them a week today.

I have to go back in a fortnight. I think I feel better in subtle ways (anxiety wise) but am wondering how the GP decides if you need 10 or 20 mg. 10 does seem to be a very low dose judging by what you (Yummy) and others on other threads have said.

Glad you feel better

slinkee · 27/06/2007 11:00

Stfflersmum, I was also wandering how the gp decides the right dosage. I have been on mine for 2 weeks and although I am less anxious and less tearful I have been wound up easily a couple of times this week but maybe that is ok? Things are definately more positive though but I'm still feeling sad and thinking about things too much. Sorry if I'm going on. Maybe I was expecting too much from them!
