Propranolol and Fluoxetine

In October I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg for a month to see how it helped, it helped a bit but the doctor thought 40mg may work better but it had the opposite effect and it didn't seem to work at all.

After another doctors visit I am back on Fluoxetine 20mg and Propranolol. I am looking for people who have experience of taking both of these together or just Propranolol as the doctor did say it could slow me down a bit, so I am a little anxious about taking it.

I take both, I increased the Fluoxetine by 20mg a day at same time as taking the Propanolol, I did feel more tired/dazed than normal for a few weeks, but the doctor thought it was more likely to be the Fluoxetine increase that caused it. I've found the Propanolol very helpful for getting rid of the physical symptoms of anxiety (although I wasn't prone to panic attacks per se, I did get churned up stressed feelings iyswim).

Hi there op
I take citalopram 20 mg daily and propranolol 40 mg 3x daily.
What dose has your doc prescribed?

The only side effects I've had seem to be really cold hands and feet. It didn't make me sleepy or anything like that, just more 'chilled out.'
I've been on fluoxetine in the past for anxiety and it didn't really work for me.

Only problem has been weight gain but tbh I'd rather be fat and have less anxiety!!

I have been on Sertraline and Propranolol for several months now for anxiety. I take the Sertraline daily and Propranolol just at the times I need it, for example if I can feel my heart racing or I'm having a few hours of increased anxiety for whatever reason. I didn't think it would help but have to say it has been incredibly helpful. It somehow just calms me and massively reduces that huge "knot" in my stomach.

Thanks for the replies doc has prescribed 20mg Fluoxetine and 40mg Propranolol to be taken once or twice a day, as needed.

I was losing weight, had stopped comfort eating on the 20mg but when it was put up to the 40mg it felt like I had taken a major step back.

I have social anxiety, hate group situations and talking to people tbh. Which is great when you work in a customer facing job. Hoping the Propranolol will help.
