Citalopram - first day

After lots of deliberation (years in fact), I have started on Citalopram for anxiety and panic attacks. I took the first one yesterday.

My anxiety has been pretty bad of late.

I have been reading about how SSRIs make you feel worse before you get better. But, today (only one tablet so far - taken yesterday), I feel strange, but in a good way. I feel slightly detached and a bit 'trippy'.
Certainly not anxious.

I was expecting to feel awful. Is this normal??

I've read that if you feel good initially, it's a bad sign because it's supposed to take a while to kick in, not work immediately.

Does this mean it's not going to work for me?

Great to hear another positive Citalopram story! I'm so pleased you are feeling better... sending positive vibes to everyone suffering from MH issues so that you find a solution that works for you soon! x

Great to hear how much it's helped you Maisie! I'm 9 days in on 10mg...I'm sure I'm noticing some improvement but I know it's early days yet. So hoping that I improve more and more!
What dosage are you on? X

Thank you Kar.

Alicia - I've been called worse!

I'm on 20mg. Are you thinking of upping your dose?

Thanks to all who've posted on this thread, I found it really helpful to read. On day two of 10mg and apart from a couple of very minor side effects, so far so good. I certainly don't feel any worse, and have little moments of something nice, and I'm hopeful the tablets will make a proper difference at some point. I'm not working anything like full-time at the moment due to other health issues, so I'm able to rest and spend time reading and watching tv and listening to music and doing a bit of studying, which I enjoy when I'm not feeling too depressed to focus.

My aim is to stay at 10mg for the first week, maybe two weeks, and then increase to 20mg. I've had horrendous side effects on other meds over the years, fingers crossed this isn't just beginners luck!

Good to see you on here, Alicia!
