How does diazepam make you feel?

I've posted a lot recently about medication etc as I'm supposed to upping my fluoxetine (but haven't because I'm scared of the side effects) my dr gave me 5 X diazepam for emergencies but I'm scared of these too ha! I'm moving house next week and its massively set a blip off for me. How will I feel if I take one on the day?? It's 2mg x

Honestly, it makes me super sleepy so I would try it out before a big/busy day to see what effect it has on you. Maybe try it one evening and then if it does make you tired, you can just go to bed.

2 mg are the very lowest dose. If you take one before bed, you may feel more sleepy and get a good night sleep. The problem is they are highly addictive!! When you go to sleep the next night without one you may be restless and take even longer to relax than normal.
If I was you I would find other ways to cope with either pain, sleep or anxiety etc..
And definitely don't drive when you take them, until you know how much they do affect you.

Pretty chill. I sometimes use it if anxiety is stopping me sleeping.

BroomstickOfLove · 06/12/2018 18:01

I had some to help me with the side-effects of fluoxetine. I can't remember the dose, but I didn't feel particularly different; I just stopped shaking and twitching. I take it now for great of flying, and again, don't feel physically different but fear doesn't lead to a panic attack.

JuniperBeer · 06/12/2018 18:07

Whilst they are very addictive, you won’t get addicted after one 2mg tablet one night.
They relax you, slightly sleepy.
If you have tons of thoughts running through your head they’ll stop, anxiety will stop and you’ll feel calm. However, the biggest thing I’ve found that has helped short term anxiety is excercise. I fucking hated people telling me that it would help. And I fucking hate the idea of doing it. But a 15 minute HIIT video on YouTube doing star jumps and bits helps massively!

AcrossthePond55 · 06/12/2018 18:16

My DS has it 'as needed' for when he has severe panic attacks. It just makes him feel calm and 'safe'. I'm in the US and there is a big push against prescribing benzos so not sure how much longer his Dr will be able to get away with prescribing them. Shame really, as they work so well.

I was Rx'd them a long, long time ago as 'mother's little helper' (rather than the Dr helping me out of an abusive situation!) and I just remember them making me feel complete apathy. Not really helpful in my situation.

Mrsbrooks1 · 06/12/2018 19:03

I literally do no excersise at all! I used to go to the gym but found it made my anxiety worse!! I just to be able to get through this move and settle in to the new house Sad

What were your side effects from the fluoxetine?

God I can’t think of anything worse than a gym, I felt the same. I honestly just stick some pyjamas on and do a starter HIIT video. I hate doing it. All throughout the entire 15 minutes. But I feel so so so so much better all afternoon afterwards. Like calmer. I sleep better too. I just search for starter hiit. Or beginner hiit. Do enough to just get out of breath. It’s over before you know it.
(Sorry to derail your thread!)

Mrsbrooks1 · 06/12/2018 19:37

Don't apologise!! I really don't want to have to take them so any advice is welcome xx

They have a big impact on me but not for very long - it's like having a big glass of wine. Quite a nice feeling but does make you feel quite tired after, probably best to take 1/2 a tablet on a quiet day or evening to see how it affects you - I tend to have them as a 'just incase' which makes me feel instantly better even when not taking them!

JuniperBeer · 07/12/2018 01:31

2ng is a very very very very low dose, give it a try if you need to. Worrying about it will add to your anxiety, which defeats the purpose. They wear off quite quickly after a few hours and if you don’t like the feeling you don’t have to take another one. You can always sleep through it. You’ll probably wake up feeling refreshed

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 07/12/2018 01:34

With me, benzos cause paranoid hallucinations.

That was fun. Hmm

bumblebee39 · 07/12/2018 16:53

Almost no effect on me at all other than mild reduction in anxiety
In high doses can make me sleepy but anywhere between 2mg-10mg I can function normally
