How long did it take to get a diagnosis?

Being nosey here, but how long did it take, once you had met with a psychiatrist, to get a diagnosis?

I was diagnosed within an hour on first meeting. Some people it seems to take many sessions, just wondering what the average is.

I guess it depends how complex the case it or if is it very obvious. I have never really told my diagnosis. I have found it out from hospital/go notes. I never ask though because my diagnosis changes do often.

Mine was obvious diagnosed within 15 minutes

15 mins Shock that’s the fastest I’ve heard.

Did you prefer not to know vicious?

Months and months. But I have a diagnosis that they aren't willing to give unless they are 100% sure.

I've never heard of someone being diagnosed within an hour?! Although, I was misdiagnosed at first.

My diagnosis has changed so many times that it is irrelevant to ask. I think it is better for myself not to know so that I don't "develop" new symptoms.
I have been diagnosed as bpd, narcistic personality disorder, bipolar and schitzoaffective in past. The diagnosis tends to change when I meet a new psychiatrist.

The problem also is that psychiatrists (or anyone else) do not understand my problem. I get symptoms that fit to above diagnosis.

That must be tough, viscous . I’ve heard of people not being diagnosed and just having the symptoms treated, which makes sense really.

Think I have quite a classic case of bipolar, probably why it didn’t take long.

I was in hospital for quite a while, about four months, before my consultant confirmed the diagnosis of bipolar. Except he called it manic depressive psychosis for that retro feel. Had previously been diagnosed with bipolar (which I’d never heard of) in another hospital where I was held for a few days before being transferred closer to home. They both did a pretty thorough workup to exclude stuff like hyperthyroidism which somehow I ended up with years later as a direct result of taking lithium anyway!

I’m still not convinced by any of it, I get more and more borderline (as in the personality disorder) with age and it frustrates me not to have that recognised officially.

I’d diagnose myself as borderpolar I think 😀

Diagnosed with one psychiatrist at first appointment with anorexia

Am currently seeing a different psychiatrist that I have spent 2 hours with so far and am awaiting another appointment but expect to be diagnosed next time.
