Anti depressants causing weight gain?

Sorry for a bit of a long post...About 15 years ago I was prescribed amitriptyline for depression. I can't remember back then if it caused weight gain but at that time, my weight was not something I cared about (I don't recall being overweight though). Since then I have developed a real concern and obsession with my weight. Diagnosed with anorexia about 8 years ago and also have bulimic tendencies. Since having Dc2, I have put on quite a bit of weight which has triggered my natural tendency to restrict again. I'm also suffering from PND and have tried not to go down the route of medication as coming off the tablets is horrible. But I'm at the point now where I am seriously considering medication as my depression and anxiety is really deteriorating. The main reason I am reluctant to take anything is the side effect of weight gain. Can anyone tell me if there are certain tablets which do not cause weight gain? It will only make me worse if I put on weight given my struggles with food.

Most do have weight gain as a side effect. I'm taking Amitriptyline for depression now and could cheerfully munch through my own weight in crisps. But I would be doing it cheerfully so I'm taking that as a win.

Bupropion doesn't but you can't get it prescribed in the UK except by a Psychiatrist in very exceptional circumstances.

Thank you for your reply. That's what I was afraid of. I was reading prozac might be the least likely to cause weight gain but then again, there are always some people who do put on weight with that too. I just know it won't work for me as my weight is a major trigger :-/

I've been on sertraline for over a year and not had any issues with weight gain. I was also on venlafaxine for a bit and it killed my appetite.

I've found the Tricyclics cause the least weight gain. We're not talking stones here though it's a matter of 6 or 7 pounds. I gain weight on anything and tbf it is probably more to do with the comfort eating.
