Anybody on Mirtazapine?

Just been prescribed 15mg by my psychiatrist to take every evening. I'm also taking venlafaxine 75mg every morning. (I believe the slang term for this combo is California Rocket Fuel).

I took my first dose last night and it completely knocked me out. I've been groggy all day, which is difficult with v small children.

Just wondering if the extreme grogginess settles over time or if I need to go back to the psychiatrist for something different.

Any experiences?

Hi OP
I took this last year and the first 2 or 3 evening they felt really strong but I adapted very quickly.

They increased my appetite immensely so I did not persevere with them. Hope you feel better soon

Hi,

I’ve been on them for 2 years, same doseage as you. They do knock you out at first, the first time I took them I slept for 16 hours! But that does wear off after a couple of weeks and now I tend to sleep 8 hours a night. They not only increase your appetite they actually prevent your body from breaking down fat effectively, I’ve gained a lot of weight whilst being on them so I am looking to wean off them with my gp’s help. They are a very good anti d though, I felt so much better within a couple of weeks of taking them so give them a chance then see how you feel in a few weeks x

Thanks for the replies here. I'm wondering whether to go up to 30 from 15, the psychiatrist mentioned that it might help with the drowsiness. Has anybody done similar and how did you find it?

Hi

I started Mirtazipine 15mg but only took that dose for 2 days at it really made me groggy. I went up to 30mg and the grogginess went. I found it really helped my mood quite quickly and it helped me get a really good nights sleep.
Unfortunately I had to stop taking it as it gave me an insatiable appetite and I put on over a stone in 4 weeks. I couldn't live with the weight gain.
I'm now going back to my original AD (Citalopram) as this didn't cause weight gain and was quite effective.

My appetite has definitely increased. I might stick at 15 for another week and see how I feel.

My gp told me that 15mg is the recommended dose as anymore can increase anxiety.

Been on 15mg Mirtazapine since July. The first 2 or 3 weeks was hell and I loved everyday groggy but that's gone now. I sleep well which is a first! Am hungry and have put on weight but have been losing weight since October and have lost 7lbs relatively easily. Upped my protein and lowered my carbs.

I am enjoying the sleep! I have a small baby but I find myself crashing back down after feeding her instead of lying awake staring at the clock
