I think I may have an eating disorder

In the past 3 weeks I have
Quit my job
Cancelled an interview
Cancelled a date
Because I've put on weight.
I seem to be putting on weight at a furious pace and I just want to hibernate until I lose weight again.

Ok, writing it down, it sounds like it's glaringly obvious. Christ, how do I stop this?

I always seem to have a disorder with putting on weight in the background, but it hasn't affected me so dramatically, so much in such a short space of time before.

I found a support group helpful. I knew what the cause was but it really helped to discuss it within the group. It helped make sense of things and just knowing there was support helped. The group was for every type of eating disorder too. It has never left me though I am stable now but it only takes one thing to set it all off again. Have you looked into groups in your area? Maybe see your gp for advice?

Are you actually putting on weight, and is this disproportionate to what you’re eating? Only asking in case there’s an underlying medical issue that needs checking.

Of course it’s not healthy to put your life on hold because of weight gain but I think you know that.

On both counts I think you should have a chat with your GP.

Are you actually putting on weight? Do the scales say you are? Can you still get into your clothes?

Doctor.

Quitting your job is not a usual response to putting on weight. So potentially a mental health issue.

Suddenly putting on lots of weight could also be a physical health issue.

So yeah, doctor.

I struggle with mental health issues but the overriding one always seems to be the eating disorder. It precipitates other issues such as drinking alcohol instead of eating, not wanting to leave the house and so on and so on. The only doctor who ever recognised it was one in my country of origin and then it came as quite a shock to me. No-one here seems to have noticed it. It's really interfering with my life now.
Yes, I have put on 2 kilos in a week.
