Is coming off anti-depressants fairly quickly over a 2-3 week period going to cause me problems?

When I got pregnant I weaned off them over 3 weeks by going down to a lower dose then starting to take them every other day. I didn't feel the effects at first but after a few weeks once it was all out my system I did start to feel negative and anxious again.

Unless you are on a tiny dose already, probably. You’re best talking to your GP about reducing and coming up with a plan.

I am in discussion with my Dr but wanted to hear from experience what it might be like. I have headaches already with only a small reduction so I'm
Wondering if this will pass quickly

Spend a on the anti depressant and the does you were on.

WhoWants2Know · 03/11/2018 04:25

It really does depend on which antidepressant you take and how much. I've never had trouble stopping any of them, until I started taking venlafaxine. It's a bastard to come off.

CalvinJohn · 22/11/2018 18:07

Venlafaxine is horrible to come off. Never had any symptoms like that with the others.

I went much slower when coming off citalopram (several months). At the time I didn't think I suffered any withdrawal or side effects (I was having CBT at the time which helped too I think), though it did coincide with a very stressful work situation so maybe there was an immediate impact on my mood. Unfortunately I had a full blow relapse 3 months later & ended up back on the ADs. It was hell at the time but I have no regrets now as I tried my best & in the process discovered that I really do need the meds to function normally.
Good luck with your journey - I know of people who successfully stopped taking ADs so please don't let my experience put you off!

Thank you. I am off but the side effects have been very very tough. I suspect I will end up back on but as you say, at least I will know I definitely need them.

How long a period did you taper off in and how long ago did you stop taking them?
It may be that your body is still adapting to being off them and you may not need them once they are fully out of your system. As they take 8 weeks to have full effect I would maybe wait for 8 weeks after your last dose to see how you feel?

TY. I'm aiming to review the situation in February assuming no catastrophic situation before this!!
