Sertraline & propanolol & weight gain

Hi, I've been on Sertraline for a couple of years & have gained about 2st in weight during that time. I'm 5ft 4 so it shows. Recently been prescribed propanilol for anxiety & am gaining more weight, especially round my middle. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi op,
This happened to me on sertraline, was the reason I asked my gp to try another (currently on effexor). In retrospect though, I'm no longer convinced it was the sertraline that caused the weight gain (10 lbs) as I had also switched jobs to a more sedentary one, and was starting perimenopause. It wasn't a lot of weight, but being 5ft 2 it was noticeable and it was around my middle. If you are young and haven't made any lifestyle changes I would look into it. If you are older (ie middle age like me) it could be part of the natural aging process?

I'm 50+ & postmenopausal. I watch what I eat & I exercise but no matter what I do I can't keep weight off. I know I sound like I'm looking for excuses but I read that both meds can cause weight gain. It's making me feel awful about myself so I'm trying to weigh up if the good effects outweigh the bad...

You could always ask your gp you'd like to try another antidepressant and mention the weight gain. I went through the same feelings as you and I think it's a valid concern. There are quite a few alternatives to sertraline Flowers
