Between being depressed and being unhappy? ..how do you know which you are...

Being unhappy is congruent with life, e.g you've no money, a rubbish partner and live in a damp flat. However you can get joy out of things. Being depressed is everything feeling joyless, being unable to concentrate / sleep (or sleeping too much), loss of libido etc.

How are you feeling? Are you ok?

For me it's when I find myself repeatedly and uncontrollably sobbing for no apparent reason, or over very little - that's when I know I've flipped into depression (again). That and catastrophic thinking, spiralling into realising I haven't laughed, not really laughed, in weeks. Even though I'm walking around with a big smile on my face - it's all forced.

But it's really different for everyone.

Must be depressed then,as I've nothing really to be unhappy about on paper
