Citalopram side effects - bleeding gums?

Just looking to see if anyone else has had this. I've been taking 10mg of citalopram for almost 4 weeks and in the last 2 days I've got really bad bleeding gums. I sometimes get a bit of blood when I brush but not like this, it's coming from every side of my mouth and there's loads of it! I got some Corsodyl just thinking it's my own fault for never flossing, but then I checked my patient leaflet thing and it said bleeding gums is a rare and severe side effect I need to immediately tell the GP about! I don't really feel like this is an emergency, my gums are quite sore but I otherwise feel fine.

Getting an appointment at my GP is an absolute nightmare and when I spoke to the receptionist it was either an emergency appointment in an hour (not possible as I work an hour and a half away, on public transport) or nothing/call back when I have time to sit at home and wait for whatever appointment they can give me. I asked if I could just make an appointment tomorrow/the day after but she said I have to call on the day sigh. My work are really good about me going for appointments but I've had a lot this year and we're short staffed so I don't want to take the mick by just leaving midway through the day, at least if I have it booked I could let my boss know a bit in advance.

Anyone else on citalopram or another SSRI had this and know if it just passes?

Thrombocytopenia is a rare side effect (problem with blood clotting) which is why you should report it to the GP. You probably need a blood test to rule it out.

If you ask for a call back from the GP they may just leave a blood test form with receptionist so you can go and get a test without seeing the GP. Explain you’re concerned about thrombocytopenia while taking an SSRI as you’re having new onset severe gum bleeding

Oh god really? I had a really bloodshot eye this morning when I woke up which seemed weird as I never get that unless I get something in it. Could that be something?! Christ I'll call at 1:15 for the afternoon appointments then. Thank you for such quick replies!
