Voluntary hospital admission

Has anyone here voluntarily gone into hospital for their mental health? It's something that I am considering as I can't cope anymore. I spend most of my life in bed and have a phobia that has migrated into ocd. I'm so scared. I have a 5 year old and my husband is so supportive but I just can't cope anymore.
What are people's experiences?

I've been in the Priory voluntarily. I think it can be extremely helpful if you can't cope at home and having the support around me 24 hours a day definitely helped along with the therapy which you receive to work through your issues.

One thing I would mention though is that if you're wanting a bed on the NHS I think you'll have to wait quite a while. I was on a waiting list for 6 months for an NHS bed but unfortunately never made the top of the list however luckily was in a position where my family helped me out by self funding my care. Wishing you all the best and I'm happy to answer any questions you have!

Have you got a Crisis house near you?

Grumpbum123 · 08/09/2018 20:13

What if you are a risk to yourself?

What if you are a risk to yourself?

You would go onto a general ward or the nearest available bed.

You’d probably just be treated at home by the crisis team, NHS beds are absurdly hard to get.

Ive tried everything including home treatment and I truly feel so stuck and desperate
Unfortunately we don't have the money to go private

I had a stress related seizure disorder and went in patient for 6 week voluntarily, originally agreed 4 but ideally they wanted me in for 12. Because I was so unwell once I made the decision to go in I was on a specialist nhs ward with 4 days notice.

It definitely turned my life around, had a voluntary job a month after I left and in employment in under 6 after 2 years not leaving the house on my own.

It’s scary but could be the best thing you ever do for yourself and family.

I was also allowed visits home after 3 weeks for a few hours or a night at the weekend.
