Help needed tricyclic anti depressants

I suffer from depression and anxiety and have tried two SSRIs, Sertraline and Prozac both of which have caused abnormal bleeding and I have had to come off them after a few weeks. Now not on anything and depression and anxiety is coming back. Going to ask GP re trying one of the older types of antidepressants and would be very grateful if anyone could recommend one that has worked for depression, anxiety and sleeping difficulties? Grateful for any suggestions.

I thought doctors were reluctant to prescribe these because of the risk of overdoes?

( sorry, that wasn’t a very helpful response - I hope you find a suitable medication)

Yes they do have more side effects than than SSRIs but they will prescribe them for people that can't tolerate other types of antidepressants. I am desperate for something that will help me.

I take Amitriptyline and it works but everyone does a double take and asks if I'm sure it's that when I tell them. I had to get the box out and show them at A&E once as they were so sure that it couldn't be for depression. It's so rare to get prescribed for depression now. I don't know why as it's worked wonders for me and I couldn't tolerate SSRIs. I tried 4 and eventually just insisted on Amitriptyline as I'd had it before for nerve pain and I knew I could tolerate it. I've only ever had dizziness as a side effect and that was only for the first couple of weeks. It does however, knock you spark out. I suggest starting it on a weekend and set alarms. I can sleep for 16 hour stretches when I've just increased my dose.

My GP hates me being on it as it's lethal in overdose and I'm a fairly high suicide risk but I think it's worth taking a chance on.

I've also heard good things about Imipramine.
