I've been referred to the Crisis Team tomorrow morning. Just wondering what to expect in the appointment. Can anyone share their experiences please?

Experiences vary dramatically.

A good crisis team will help you develop a plan towards recovery.

A bad one will tell you to have a cup of tea or take a walk. Sadly that's very common nowadays.

What would you like help with? It might help if you have an idea of what you want from them.

I've been with them for 6 weeks. Last appointment tomorrow. My experience has been ok. I didn't really engage in the first few weeks as I was really bad, but the past couple of weeks has been better and I realise they are there to help.

With me they generally tracked my moods, administered medication and asked how my day was, if I had any plans and how I'd been feeling. It was really just a conversation. Sometimes they were there for about 15 minutes other times an hour and would only stay as long as I felt comfortable with.

The only down side is that I had different people visiting me each time so, I felt like they weren't getting the full picture, which I know wasn't their fault.

Thanks, I am having lots of intrusive memory flooding and I am very agitated. I have been started on Olanzapine but it's making me trippy and very sleepy.

I'm not suicidal or self harming but I am also not "well'.

We had crisis team input for nearly 2 months before my dh was admitted to a psychiatric unit. I think they were invaluable but my dh was sadly too unwell to stay at home. We had a team of 3 nurses that came most days,it was good just having the 3 of them because my dh was very paranoid about them.

Sorry to hear you've been poorly, hope you get the help and support you need..

I have only positive experience of crisis team. I had PND. Sleepy is probably a good thing if you are having intrusive thoughts and are agitated.

Do you have Bipolar?

Apologies, maybe the bipolar thing was out of order, there are lots of things that can cause intrusive thoughts including PTSD. Sometimes I open my gob without thinking!

Thank you, it's really helpful to know people have met with them and come out of the other side.

I have Complex Trauma and Dissociation.

No need to apologise.

LOTS & LOTS of people have met with them and come out the other side. Many more than you might think. I have a notmal-sized friendship and family circle and know at least 5 people who have had crisis team input at one time or another and all are leading pretty ok lives now. I have 2 kids and a really responsible job and a great social life. Acute MH services are much better in my experience than routine ones.

Good luck for tomorrow..don't be scared. Mental health issues are as common as muck. Remember, 1 in 4 people... and that is just the ones who admit it. You.Will.Be.Ok :)

We have mental health team input for my DH - they have been kind, supportive and respectful. I cannot speak too highly of them.

Thank you Everybody, it was a really positive experience. They've booked me in for a medication review on Monday and then will discharge me back to the GP.

Eternally grateful for the responses as it was terrifying when I was first told!

Hey that is great. Glad it went so well. Xx

Mishappening · 10/09/2018 15:54

I'm glad too!

So just in case anyone else is reading this who is in the same boat, I had the medication review and they gave me more options. I have found the service really helpful. I go back tomorrow to discuss things again, I am pretty nervous about tomorrow as I called last night to ask to change medication and that didn't go down well due to the time it was.

However, they gave me the option to do so (both the medication and calling) and so I will ask again tomorrow.

Medication is making me feel pretty bleurgh right now.
