Run out of tablets - sertraline

I use a 7 day pill dispenser to keep track of my pills. I went to fill it up today (and take today's tablets) and I realised I had messed up big time and had none left. Typically it is a Sunday (last ones Saturday am). DH is going to go to the GP surgery tomorrow and see (plead) if they can issue a same day repeat (usually it wouldn't be ready till Wednesday).

Will I be ok? - I am on 200mg

Thank you

I'm sure if you go to a pharmacy and explain the situation they can give you a 5 day emergency supply under the 'Access to Medication' scheme. I did this for my mum last week when she ran out of thyroid tablets due to a mix up with her prescription at the GP surgery.

I take sertraline too and they have a 36 hour half life which basically means your body won't miss them straightaway but approx a day and a half from taking your last dosage. Given that your DH will help you get a speedy prescription and that a pharmacy are usually very helpful in these types of situations, the chances are you won't get many side effects from today's missed dosage. Good luck.

Yes I echo the above, would try that. Where are you based?

In my pharmacy, if you normally get your prescriptions from there, they have a record and can issue you an emergency 5 day u til you get your repeat.

If u call 111 a doctor might be able to fa a prescription request to a local pharmacy that had late night opening

Thank you all. The 36hrs hours will take me to about now. I did consider the pharmacy but my usual one is shut on a Sunday. If the surgery won't rush it through, I will get him to ask at the pharmacy. If he can get it sorted then I will be able to at least take them tomorrow night.

You can get a script off nhs direct. The pharmacy would advise you to do this. They will send it to the pharmacy. Just a small amount. Then go in on Monday for full prescription.

Aridane · 03/09/2018 04:39

Yes, NHS Direct will sort it

Atthebottomofthesea · 03/09/2018 13:11

Thank you all. My husband popped down earlier and they have told him to ring at 4pm and it might be sorted. He can then either take it on the way to gym class for my youngest or i can take it over later tonight to a late night pharmacy.

Lesson learnt. Feel a bit rough today, but that may just be work induced.

Good news! Smile

Thank you. All sorted. Took some at tea time and will get back on track in the morning.

Apparently the surgery were very good natured about it.

Oh good, I’m glad! Make sure you don’t go over your dose when you take them in the morning if you’ve taken the dose later today Smile

Pinkandproud · 04/09/2018 16:57

Sorry just seen you posted this last night!

Atthebottomofthesea · 04/09/2018 20:33

Thanks. I think it was alright as I took them last night about 6 and this morning about 7, so hopefully still enough time between.

Back on track now. Smile
