Just wondered if anyone else has been taking Venlafaxine antidepressant, and has any experience of coming off it cold turkey. I have been taking 225g for about 18 months, and have decided I don't like the awful side affects, i.e. sweating profusely, weight gain and high blood pressure. Has anyone got advice for me. I don't want to cut down the dose gradually, as it will take too long.

Just do it gradually, down to 1 every others day for a weeks or so and then just cut out over a few weeks, speak to your doctor to be absolutely sure as if you just stop them, it can make you feel worse!
I lowered my dose pretty easily over a couple of weeks x

CarlsRightEye I have been Venlafaxine free for about ten days. The worst part was the irritability, I have never felt so angry over the littlest things in all my life, I was worried I might have to get in touch with the local vicar for an exorcism. Today, I think I can see light at the end of a long drug fuelled tunnel. I have been on some sort of AD for eight years. I am looking forward to actually feeling something. That's the trouble, with AD's they not only stop the bad feelings, they stop ALL feelings.

I was on 375mg at the highest. It’s taken me about 8 months to wean off. Go very slowly. The withdrawal for me was really unpleasant so I would really not go cold turkey. Towards the end I was splitting tablets to just get a tiny dose and then stopped.

CarlsRightEye Those brain zaps are so bloody irritating, it's like two wires in your head not connecting correctly, and they make that awful, zzzzzz sound.Confused
