Citalopram and insomnia- help!

I’ve just been diagnosed with postnatal anxiety and have been citalopram. My anxiety tends to manifest at nighttime when I get incredibly panicky and worried that I won’t sleep and therefore won’t be a good Mum to my daughter the next day. I’ve read that insomnia is a side effect of citalopram and now I’m too scared to take it as insomnia is already my worst symptom. Do any of you know how common insomnia is? Have any of you had this and got through it? Help!

I am on day 3 today of starting citalopram and sleep has not been an issue at all. In fact it's the best 3 nights sleep in a long while x

I've taken it for 5 years and never had this issue.

I have similar sleep anxieties to you, OP, and it can be really difficult, I know. I do an excellent job of talking myself into insomnia too! I found that Sertraline (also an SSRI) exacerbated by sleep problems when i started taking it, but I was foolishly taking it before bed! Taking in the morning instead made a big difference. If you do end up suffering from sleep problems with Citalopram, you could ask about Mirtazapine. That's what I take now - I sleep beautifully, and haven't gained the weight that a lot of people seem to.
