I've been on varying doses of citalopram for anxiety for about 15 years and, for the most part, it has kept it largely under control. Over the last few years, however, I've found my anxiety is getting worse & worse and even the highest dose is now not really touching the anxiety.
I spoke to the Dr yesterday and suggested maybe trying a different med and she suggested fluoxetine (although she was sceptical that changing meds would have any effect on my anxiety). The problem is, to swap I would first need to taper off the citalopram over the course of 3-4 weeks before then starting on the lowest dose of fluoxetine and building up.
Given that my anxiety is sky high at the moment anyway I'm terrified that a) I'm going to have withdrawal symptoms from tapering off the cit (especially as I'm on the highest dose and been on it for so long b) the anxiety is going to get worse whilst I'm tapering off c) the fluoxetine is going to take 4-6 weeks to get into my system (at the lowest dose) followed by months of adjusting doses etc d) I'm going to get horrible side effects from the fluoxetine and e) the fluoxetine doesn't work and I'll end up worse off than I am now.
Has anyone had any experience of doing this?
