Just wondered if anyone else has found a link between feeling rubbish and certain times of the month? I seem to feel at my most anxious and down during my period and then it lifts again.... anyone else?

Me!

I never noticed the link my male boss did!

Well he noticed I would get very down on a regular basis and sometimes I could pull myself out of it and other times I would dwell on all the things not right with my life and get more down.

He was a fabulous man who took the time to listen to me and what I realised is that he mostly listened and just posed odd question for me to think about / answer.

From our conversations I started to track my feelings more and realised I felt down/ questioned what was wrong in my life just before my period started.

Once I realised this when I got those feelings/ thoughts I would make myself get up and walk the dog or phone mum or go see a friend or even tidy up that evening and banish the thoughts from my head at that moment. Normally the next day or two period would start and I felt ok again.

I've probably felt like this for about ten years and never made the connection !

I'm a lot happier now and more content with my life

The world can be very bleak for a couple of days before my period, but if I take a moment to remember where I am in my cycle, that in itself makes it easier to deal with, because I know it should lift when my period starts.

Yeah definitely- 100%. I actually always feel rock bottom for about a week leading up to my period, but once it starts it's like a massive lift (the mental pain gets replaced with physical pains). It's well documented and is all based on hormones. Been like that for 20 years.
Interestingly since being pregnant I've been the most level and happy and have never felt like that once (again probably hormone related). Bit worried once I have the baby the hormones might make me come crashing down!

Thanks all, for me it seems at it's worst during and a bit after the period. Is that weird?!

Absolutely! I get v tearful and anxious and can feel v low just before my period. It’s got worse as I am approaching the menopause. Not sure if any supplements might help - I’m just so rubbish at taking them regularly.
