Hi any advice on antidepressants for son. He has social anxiety,bad thoughts and panic attacks.

How old is he?
I'm on citalopram 20mg. I think this is the one they place you on if you've never taken them before. Was on half a tablet for a week and now take 1 a day. They made my anxiety worse for about 2 weeks but now it's settled I feel more confident to go out and don't feel as awkward around people or worry.
Book him an appointment with the gp they will be able to help

hi, thankyou for your comment. He spoke to gp over the phone they has percribed him citalopram 10mg but only for 7 days. Then he has to call doctor back.

Only 7 days? That's odd. It takes about 3 weeks to get into the system and then 5 to 6 weeks for the full benefit

I not sure why they only gave him 7 days. Maybe to keep an eye on him. He's also on 20mg of Betta blockers a day. I didn't realise it took so long to get into a person's system! He's took the tablet for 3 days now and says it makes him feel like nothing. His Betta blockers run about tomorrow so he will have to ring his doctor to get some more,as he won't attend an appointment. He's promised me he going to try and push him self a little tomorrow!
