Hi,
Apologies in advance for a long post.
I’m in my mid thirties and was diagnosed a few months ago with bipolar 2. This is after a 1 hour appointment and all the Psychiatrist notes was I was depressed. I was put on mood stabilizers. After that I just felt even more depressed and I guess this diagnosis was tough. I recently decided to get a second opinion and the new psychiatrist asked me if I’ve ever been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Felt like my world was crashing around me. Anyway the second Dr took me off the mood stabilizers and put me into anti depressants. I have felt so much better since being on the anti depressants.
I know it’s complicated to diagnose mental illnesses. I just really am concerned that Dr’s are quick to jump to a diagnosis.
What’s your experience with mental illnesses?
Is it normal to doubt a diagnosis?
