Hi everyone
I started on Sertraline last week and despite a few side effects ( that are already wearing off ) I have started to feel tons better . I can feel my anxiety already starting to lessen . And my mood has started to improve after only a week :)

However , I am seeing online this medicine can cause weight gain. I’ve recently lost 5 stone on slimming world and nearly at target . It’s taken me a good while so I would hate to pile weight on now I’m taking the Sertraline ? Does anybody have any experience of Sertraline ? Did it change your weight? Does the tablet actually cause weight gain or increased appetite that can cause weight gain if you eat more than usual?

Thanks xx

I lost weight on it. I was much calmer and happier so didn’t confort eat :)

For me it was just increased appetite so when i found ways to control that (spreading smaller meals out more througout day) it was fine and my weight stayed the same. When I started dieting and working out more i was still able to lose weight. Maybe slightly slower than before, but it still shifted. Good luck and hope it works well for you x

Okay so the tablet doesn’t make you gain it just makes you hungrier more ?

I lost weight on it. It made my quite nauseous and my mouth very dry so I drank a lot of water and wasn’t that interested in food.

I didn't have any bother with it, either making me hungrier or gaining weight (fecking mirtazapine on the other hand Angry) - in fact, I was sticking to slimming world myself at the time, with no issues.

Hang in there, OP Flowers

I think it can just increase appetite in some cases. It didn’t when I was on it. Most anti depressants have the side effect of weight gain listed, but it’s only in some cases. Sounds like you’ve done amazingly at Slimming World- with you having lost so much weight I’m sure you’d have the will power to keep it up even if the sertraline makes you hungrier 😊

Initially I lost weight to be honest as during the first two weeks I suffered with a bad stomach and nausea. After that subsided I didn't put on any more so my weight remained exactly the same. Can't say if I am hungrier or not as I am on the pill and that makes me want to eat everything!

I've gained 1.5 stone. Very pissed off. Wouldn't mind if it worked for my depression! Currently weaning off it. For me, I believe it has contributed to significant sugar cravings but I understand it can also affect metabolism. Varies from person to person though.

I lost half a stone on Sertraline.

Appetite was good but I had more energy to exercise and cut out the alcohol.
