Anxiety/OCD

I went to my gp today, my asbestos obsession has got to me, he has reassured me that the children and myself are not at risk from anything and he thinks my mind is being irrational following five years of constant stress, dh was admitted to psychiatric hospital, Dd diagnosed with ptsd, ds very ill last year etc etc. During consultation he said that as I could see things logically he wasn’t particularly worried and would see me in two weeks time, but didn’t want to prescribe any medication at the moment.
I was reassured for a while bit since coming back home this afternoon the anxiety is awful, what can I do?

Big hugs from me - I used to have anxiety over asbestos as well. It's easy for me to say, but if you can, distract yourself from it - even if it's only for a few seconds or minutes at a time. Make tea, sing a song loudly, count hairs on your arm - anything. It's like going to the gym, the more you exercise the distracting muscle, as it were, the stronger it gets.

You won't always feel this way I promise.

Thank you for replying, I am trying so hard but it keeps jumping into my head...and dh had a go at me last night saying I just need to get on with it and face my fears, he is worried I am starting ocd type rituals.

Sorry you feel like this. I suffer from terrible ocd and anxiety. Have you tried that 5 hats thing?
