Sertraline withdrawal

Looking for others who have came off sertraline to share their experiences with me. I started on sertraline 50mg in November and made the decision two weeks ago to come off them slowly. For the first week I split each pill in half so was having 25mg daily and I had a few spells of dizziness but nothing too intense. Then over the past week I have dropped down to approx 12mg (about a quarter of the pill) and the dizziness has got a bit more intense but manageable. Ive also been feeling a bit teary and emotional, but nothing too intense.

Today is my first day with no tablet at all. This morning was fine but as the day has went on, the dizziness has been crippling. Ive been in bed since about 4pm and am struggling to even type this without feeling an intense wave of dizziness.

Does anyone have any advice as to how long this will last? I can power through if I know I'm only going to feel like this for a day or two, but the thought of feeling like this every day for the next few weeks is unbearable

Hi, it lasted about a month for me. It was pretty horrendous! I am actually back on them now. Did you get advice from your doctor about the best way to come off of them?

It sounds like you came off them a little too fast. Needs to be a long, slow taper to minimize withdrawal. Call your GP tomorrow and let him or her know how you are feeling.

I think you're right and Ive done it too quickly. I didn't speak to the doctor before coming off (I know this is silly but Ive been so busy and our gp booking system is a nightmare)- my logic was that Ive been mentally very stable for a good few months now so know I'm ready but didn't think about the logistics of physically coming off them. I'll book an appointment and see if they can help me with a better plan to taper off

I really think you need to speak to your GP.

Aside from side effects if you withdraw too quickly, your mental health could be significantly impacted as my understanding is you should take them for around a year (I’m currently taking them - and have been sense March 2017- and will probably start withdrawing in the next couple of weeks - after discussing with my GP)

Please see your GP.
