Feeling very very low

I have suffered depression on & off for past 20 years. I'm nearly 50. Last summer I weaned myself off citalopram, with support from gp. I'd joined SW & lost 10stones. I felt great. I started to struggle in winter...I always find winter hard. Then realised I was having a lot of perimenopause symptoms. And have major money worries. And since Xmas struggled with diet. Saw gp & started HRT. Night sweats have stopped but craving sugary food is dreadful & I've put over a stone back in a few weeks as keep binging. Last few weeks just want to cry all the time & had some dark thoughts...wouldnt act on them, as have DD. Rang docs on 6th April, 1st app could get is 24th. Wondering if I should just stop the HRT? Have heard it can cause depression.
Any advice appreciated please?

Not sure. I know the actual menopause can cause all kinds of problems like depression but am unsure about whether hrt can.

I guess that if hrt is causing periods & women get low during periods then it would make sense that it's the hrt causing you to feel low?

I wouldn't stop it though until you see your gp?

Sorry not much help, just didn't want them read & run.

Thanks.
Previously I found having lots of syn free snacks in helped & I was really focussed. Lost the 10 stone in just over 10 months. Then only had a stone to go & have gone up & down loads. Im a teacher & during the Easter holidays Ive put on a stone!!! I stopped having sweet stuff in the house when I found my willpower had gone but then I've been going to the shop just to buy chocolate. After a knee injury in January Ive been unable to exercise.. Im trying to exercise more again now in the hope it will make me eat better again too. Usually I find writing down what I eat helps me focus....especially if I fill in an SW diary for my consultant. Even that hasn't helped this week.
So no....no real tips to avoid the sugary food when you completely lose the plot! Sorry.
