Group Therapy - anyone been

hoping for some advice here tonight.
I had my assessment at the NHS psychodynamic psychotherapy unit today and the psychologist I saw recommended I attend group therapy.
I'm reluctant, I've been in group before and didn't feel as though I had anything to say there.
Can someone help me understand what it is about and how it will potentially benefit me? I am hugely isolated but I can function well in my day to day life, well I go to work. Dont do anything else.
Part of me is massively let down and hurt that I am being passed over for one to one sessions and sees being sent to the group as a kind of second class therapy. I feel rejected.
