I am seeing someone next week who does this. Does anyone have any experience of it? Thanks

Hi OP,

not had SE but I’ve heard good things about it.

All the best!

Thanks! I will report back if you are interested. I have a lot of physical symptoms which are emotional/stress related and conventional counselling doesn't work for me. I am quite excited about it!

I've just googled this, it does sound to me very scary but that is because of the type of trauma. I would be really interested to hear about what actually happens in practice.

Thanks. thatcoldfeeling from what I have read you do not have to 're-experience' traumatic events, as this can do more harm than good. however I guess that obviously it will involve dealing with some intense feelings. I want to feel in safe hands. There are two practitioners in my area so I may meet with both to see who I feel most comfortable with. Will report back!

Hi Arcadia,

interested in how your session went! x

Arcadia · 12/03/2018 11:27

Thanks mellifera. The appointment went well in that I felt I was in safe hands. I had to fill her in on the background - basically my life- so that took a while! We are having 5 more sessions initially, the next one is this Friday. I still don't quite understand how the somatic experiencing works and even whether this will be the right approach for me so will fill you in after the next appointment!
