Hi. I posted a few days ago about my DH. He has been unwell and the doctor has referred him for cbt and started him on Citalopram. However, the doctor seemed to have ignored the fact that he can't eat or sleep. He has now not eaten properly for about 2 weeks. Maybe like 1 slice of bread and a sip of smoothie over the past week. He hasn't slept more than 2 hours on a row for a month.

How can I help him. What should I do? He is so weak and is getting sick. I'm offering him food but he is refusing.

Personally I would phone his GP and discuss your concerns. You could also try something like complan which is a high nutrition milkshake.

During my worst bouts of depression I went long periods without eating or washing. I recall a month where I ate maybe 6 meals the whole month. There’s not much the doctor can do, this is part of depression. Hopefully once the Citalopram kicks in he’ll feel better and want to eat more. Keep offering, it’s easier if you don’t have to think about feeding yourself. I think eggy bread was the only thing I wanted (oddly)

The doctor might be able to prescribe something to help him sleep though. Buy he’ll need to go back and talk to him himself. A good nights sleep can do wonders.
