Hi can anyone handhold/ keep me company for half an hour or so. I had a bad day, and a difficult counselling session which has affected me and now am all out of sorts. I was thinking of watching something on my laptop to distract me. Any suggestions?

Sorry you've had a bad day. Flowers
What sort of genre do you fancy?

Intheblackhole · 22/02/2018 23:32

Thanks. I don't know. What have you watched tonight?

This afternoon I watched Jane the Virgin and right now I'm currently watching Devious Maids - its not great but I may as well get through it now I've started. I recently finished Desperate Housewives, so I guess I'm pretty into the whole OTT drama genre. I know its not everyones taste though!

Have you been watching SOTF ?I could see if that's ready on catch up yet

Sorry you've had a rough day. Flowers

How about something like The Big Bang Theory? I find it's the sort of thing I can dip into, not having watched it for ages, and still find it comforting. Although my go-to watching-as-a-comfort-blanket series has to be Frasier.

PastaSauceHoarder · 22/02/2018 23:44

BlueRabbit's suggestion is a good one - something you can dip in and out of that doesn't require paying too much attention to the storyline.

Hi , another bad night tonight. Anyone around?

Hi! I’m having a shot one too. I’ve been watching Life In Pieces on Amazon which has helped as they are short eps so I’m not commuting to an hour of SOTF (haven’t seen tonight’s yet)

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2018 23:54

Commuting? Committing

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 25/02/2018 00:00

Always distract and raise a smile.....

Intheblackhole · 25/02/2018 00:30

Thanks have watched all the links. Penguins was funny. And David Attenborough talking to the birds.
I've seen SOTF , emotional episode.

I have these bad feelings I can't get rid of and don't have the energy anymore. Last night I thought about calling the Samaritans but then was distracted but as soon as it's quiet, it's back.

I'm thinking about calling the Samaritans too but have been distracted by Channel 4 Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmares USA just starting. For some reason I find its familiar format soothing.

I give good warm loving hugs. Have one. Especially for you xx

Intheblackhole · 25/02/2018 00:58

Thankyou for the hug. Yes I wish I knew what I am supposed to do with these thoughts and memories. I wish I had a bit more advice . It seems I just have to cope yet I don't feel I can. Though I hate that.

Have you tried CBT?

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 25/02/2018 01:30

Write your memories down. Not in detail but more like a quick shopping list. It will help clear your head (hopefully! Well, it sometimes helps me). I feel for you, you are not alone tonight.

Masterhasgivendobbyasock · 25/02/2018 01:32

Sorry I don’t have any specific advice but just wanted to offer sympathies Flowers You could talk about the thoughts and memories here and we can try and offer advice?

Have you tried mindfulness? I’ve actually found it really helpful

Intheblackhole · 25/02/2018 06:18

Thankyou for the company. It's a feeling in my body I have when I bring up these memories. Like fear inside myself and chest pain. It was in counselling it happened , since that day three or four days ago I feel like this.

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 25/02/2018 08:04

CBT helped me deal with this. I still occasionally get it. More memories that upset me rather than worrying about things that could happen now but I know how to put them to rest in my mind. Ask your GP for it.

I had it twice, the first time it didn’t click but the second it really worked even though I was doubtful due to my prior experience.

Intheblackhole · 25/02/2018 09:15

Thanks. It's strange because it's not worries or resolving the past or thinking something through. It's more like a physical state that seems to be a physical and emotional memory from the past. There are no worries or words, just fear/ panic feeling trapped, heavy and physical sensations.

OP posts:
MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 25/02/2018 21:49

Sounds like panic attack leaving your body on high alert and anxious. We all have different coping mechanisms to deal with them. Hope you feel a bit better today.

Intheblackhole · 25/02/2018 23:42

yes, panic and fear but it's strange because I don't know what's it's about. It's just there. It comes and after some days it goes. But while it's with me it's constant and makes me feel hopeless.

Sorry my own mh is very bad at the moment but have you sought professional support?
