i have been on 10 mg for almost 3 weeks - some days are brilliant, feel so together and can cope with anything, then have a bad panicky day and feel like i am starting all over again. not many people are on 10mg on mumsnet, is it too early to up the dose? should i wait for another 3 weeks? have no side effects at all which is great.

I had mine upped after 4 weeks, but I am pretty used to ADs and know what works and what doesn't. Finish the packet, and talk to your GP when they have finished.

today i am having a crap day, so the idea of waiting another 3 weeks...no fun at all....ok, i just have to think that i can have good days as well.....

There is no point struggling, if you are feeling really low go to GP sooner rather than later. They are the expert, they may say wait a little longer, they may say "ok, let's up your dose". Personally, I think they should have kicked in by now, and the fact they semi have tells me that you need a higher dose, but, I am going from my own experiences here. They may just be not the right AD for you, but, you say they have improved you a little... Is there anything else you can do for another week (presuming you have 28 tablets) to improve your mood? I know it's easier said than done, but, sometimes I do find practical things can help x

i have lovely days and really crap days - had a huge panick attack last night but was able to manage it and fell asleep. still cannot sleep though without sleeping tablet though (one of those anti-histamine medication taht knocks you out) i suspect the dose needs to be upped. will see gp on friday.

I was on sleeping tabs at one point, I find my 20mg citalopram helps me sleep now. x

Quootiepie · 02/05/2007 12:41

I take it before bed, no idea if that doesn anything, but GP told me to and I guess it's kinda pyschological in a way taking it before bed, helps you relax. x

I take mine on a morning but maybe see about waiting another week to see if you notice a difference.
It took me 4 weeks for it to kick in.

I was on 20mg to start with but it was making me feel sick and if I drank Tea it would make it worse. In fact now I cant drink tea at all, its really odd.

Quootiepie · 02/05/2007 12:46

I can't drink tea either, or coffee on ADs. Strange that!

Nbg · 02/05/2007 12:48

Really!

Isnt it weird. I darent drink tea now in case it makes me puke. Even more so now I'm pg.

I do like a good cuppa though

Iamnotstressed, have you looked at your diet? Is there anything that you have cut out at all?
I have been told to stop eating chocolate, sugary drinks, red wine, cheese etc.

I noticed a huge difference after cutting out the drinks and chocolate.

iamnotstressed · 02/05/2007 12:51

Nbg are you pregnant and on citalopram? gp told me not to conceive till i am off them which might be 4 months or 1/2 years...really sad about that.

Don't drink or eat chocolate - i am into fruit and veggies, especially now it's warm.

Yep, apparently Citalopram is one of the few AD's you can take whilst pg.

iamnotstressed · 02/05/2007 13:20

really? then my gp got it wrong....not that i am in a state to actually think of conceiving, but nice to know. thankyou very much.

FWIW, I'm not in the right state to be pg lol!
I'm still not 100%. Far from it actually.

I think theres a difference though in conceiving whilst taking it and being pg.
