I have my first meeting with an NHS psychiatrist due, what happens in the first assessment?

They will ask you questions about how you're feeling and your symptoms. They may ask about your past history. That's what they did with me. Good luck and hope you get the answers you're looking for

Ok thanks so much at least I kind of know what to expect.
Really hope I get help, been waiting 4 months for this appointment and has already been cancelled once.

Hopefully it went fine. My first consultation with psychiatrist took one hour. I had a history of mental health problems so we went through them and past medications. We also discussed my childhood and what I have been doing since. Of course we went through my present problems. Doctor suggested some medications but I didn’t want to start anything yet (breast feeding). At last he gave appointment in 5hree months time.

Thanks, my appointment is not till next week but it's good to know what to expect. I might write some stuff down so I don't forget to mention bits.
So nervous but hopefully I can get on the right track again.

I have appointment with new psychiatrist in our trust next week.

One thing I remember from my first appointment was that the dr asked I want a cpn. I didn’t know hat it means but just said yes. It turned out it meant community psychiatric nurse that visits at home. I found them very helpful. At the moment I don’t have one but I am doing better.

Thanks for the advice, glad you are doing better.
It's such a struggle
