PTSD

I think I have PTSD. I’ve started to accept I need to go to the doctors, but does anyone know what I say to them? I feel a bit silly going but I cannot go on feeling like this. Do I tell them I think I have this? Or do I need to tell them how I’m feeling? I find the thought of the latter excruciating. I’d really appreciate any advice.

You don't have to worry they've probably heard all sorts of things already, and if for instance you think you need to be referred to a specialist just tell them why you think this is so and explain so they can understand your problem well enough to figure out what help you need, what kind of therapy or assistance they can offer in order to help you.

I had PTSD after an incident involving my DD which I can't talk about on here (well anywhere really) - that was 13 years ago. I had EMDR therapy which saved my life, I would not have been able to carry on long term without it. It was delivered at my GP surgery for free, do google and make enquiries.

I think either approach can work but that it probably depends on your GP as to which is best. If you are uncomfortable talking about it, you could write down some or all of it and give them that. I found though that once my GP realised I was struggling massively with a mental health issue, he just put in an urgent referral to the Adult mental health team, I didn't need to go into details with him.
