Coming off Citalopram - What should I expect?

I have been on Citalopram for 11 months now, initally at 20mg and currently at 40mg per day.
My GP has said that if I am still fine at the end of the month then we should consider starting to wean me off them.
So, How long does this process normally take?
and Should I expect any symptoms?

Hi,
They have really helped me.
I felt a bit weird to start with - like being behind a glass wall, the rest of the world seemed 'muted' but it was so much better than having those horrible thoughts.
Now I feel great and am really getting on with life, my chidren, starting new hobbies. Life is worth living.

If you are on 40mg it should take months and months. 20mg is the first therapeutic dose, so 40mg is more than the minimum. (60mg is the most given afaik). You have to take it slowly through 30mg then 20mg and then 10mg, then 10mg every other day, then every 3rd day etc.

No, not if, like he says you are weaning yourself off them.
